Document Scanner ("the App") lets you scan paper documents with your camera, clean them up, and save them as PDF files. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App uses, where it stays, and the choices you have. In short: your documents stay on your device. We do not run any servers, have no user accounts, and never receive your scans.
1. Your documents and photos stay on your device
- Photos you capture or import, the processed pages, thumbnails, document names and the PDFs you create are stored only in the App's private storage on your device.
- All image processing (edge detection, perspective correction, filters) and PDF creation happen on your device. Nothing is uploaded to us or to any third party for processing.
- We do not use OCR or any cloud service, and we do not read, analyse, sell or share the content of your documents.
- Temporary working files are created while you scan and are removed when you finish or when you use "Clear temporary files" in Settings.
- Uninstalling the App deletes its private storage, including all documents inside it. PDFs that you saved or shared outside the App (for example to your Downloads folder or another app) are not deleted by uninstalling, because they are no longer part of the App's storage.
2. Permissions the App asks for
- Camera – to photograph documents. The camera feed is processed on the device and is not recorded or transmitted.
- Photos / media (read) – only if you choose "Import from gallery", so you can pick existing photos of documents. On Android 13 and newer the App requests access to images only for this feature; the system photo picker lets you choose specific photos.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only) – to read from and write to your gallery on older devices.
- Internet – used only so the advertising service described below can load ads. The App does not send your documents over the internet.
You can withdraw any permission at any time in your device settings. If you decline the camera permission you can still import photos from your gallery, and vice versa.
3. Information stored by the App on your device
The App saves the following locally, and only to make the App work:
- your documents, pages and thumbnails;
- a small local database with document names, page order, dates and processing settings;
- your app language preference.
This information never leaves your device through the App unless you choose to save or share a PDF.
4. Saving and sharing PDFs
When you tap Save, the App writes the PDF to the location you choose. When you tap Share, the App opens your device's share sheet and hands the PDF to the app you select (for example email or a messaging app). From that moment the PDF is handled under that app's or service's own privacy policy. We do not see or control where you send your files.
5. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App is free and supported by ads shown through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK): a banner on the home screen and a rewarded video ad shown before you save or share a PDF.
To show and measure ads, Google may collect and process information from your device, such as:
- your advertising ID (Android Advertising ID) and other device identifiers;
- IP address and approximate location derived from it;
- device and app information (device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, network/connectivity and carrier information);
- information about ad interactions (impressions, clicks, video views), and diagnostics such as crash and performance data.
Google may use this information to serve and personalise ads, to measure and report on ad performance, and to prevent fraud and abuse. This data is handled by Google under Google's Privacy Policy; see also How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. We do not receive your advertising ID or the data Google collects, and we do not add any of your document content to ad requests.
Your choices about ads
- On Android, open Settings → Google → Ads (the exact path can differ by device) to opt out of ads personalization or to reset or delete your advertising ID.
- If you opt out of personalization you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
6. What we do not do
- We do not run a backend, and there are no accounts or sign-in.
- We do not use analytics, tracking or crash-reporting SDKs of our own.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, or your document content.
- We do not sell your personal information.
7. Children's privacy
The App is a general-purpose tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads are served by Google under its own policies; if you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has used the App in a way you are not comfortable with, please contact us and consider using your device's parental controls.
8. Data security
Because your documents never leave your device through the App, their protection depends mainly on your device security (screen lock, encryption, backups). We recommend keeping a screen lock enabled. Note that Android may include the App's data in your device or Google backups according to your device's backup settings.
9. International users and your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Since the developer does not collect or store personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access or delete on our side; documents can be deleted at any time inside the App. For advertising data held by Google, you can exercise your rights through your Google account's ad settings and privacy controls or by contacting Google directly. You may also contact us at the address above and we will help as far as we can.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when the App gains new features. The latest version will always be available at the link on the App's store listing, with the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected in a new effective date. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
